D2, Artistic infiltration in the collective space of Reignier:

During one month, from April 18th till May 18th, 2008, Reignier city (Rhône-Alpes, France) is vested by various artistic initiatives notably structured around the secondary road D2. This demonstration, organized by Lapse association and independent curator Katie Kennedy, defines oneself as both « an artistic event, a research group about collective space an its relationship with citizen ». The choice of this city is not trivial, it seeks to question the collective space in suburban structures as Reignier. This town, neighboring to big cities, has known since the 60s a demographic and urbanistic expansion ; one of the most evidence is the road D2. Thanks to various spontaneous demonstrations, life instants, micro situations and micro events, Reignier becomes an " ephemeral experimental field" around this concept of open public spaces which is not limited to a simple transit space.
This artistic infiltration occurs on different time, spaces and relationship scales. The actions can effectively varied during one evening, one week or one month ; the installations are developped along D2 way, on one or many places according to a cycle or a suite. They can be fixed or mobile, with an scalable principle. All these interventions present then a variety of relation with Reignier collective space. Some take place in « buffer spaces » as coffee, shop, youth center; while others take advantage of usual communication supports in the town as road signes, commercial breaks or banners. Some works stimulate a discontinuity in public space landscape while other stress on pre-existing forms. D2 demonstration does not organize a car crossing of Reigner city for a simple observation of artistic outdoor works, on the contrary it invites to live the city and its public opened spaces. Close to a wandering or saunter initiative, it gives the possibility to discover or rediscover this urban space, its histories, its residents, but also living moments in this public space.
